What are Boomerang bags?
Boomerang Bags works to reduce the use of plastic bags by engaging local communities in the making of Boomerang Bags – community made using recycled materials, Boomerang Bags provide a free, fun, sustainable alternative to plastic bags.
By getting involved, you are participating in a national movement that celebrates a local grassroots initiative, community building and sustainability.
We are hoping to make 1000 bags by the end of the year and distribute them across four stores in Fremantle to encourage the use of cloth bags rather than plastic. The idea will be that people take a bag and then return it (ie boomerang!) when they next go to the store.
So how can you help?
We need people to sew but we also need people to cut out the patterns, iron, mark pockets etc - there is a job for everyone!
Please look at the following list and bring what you can - sewing machines with lots of cotton/ needles, overlockers, pins and pin cushions, good snips and scissors, tape measure, unpickers, marker pens or chalk.
Growers Green Farmers Market has become a Boomerang Bag Community. We will hold weekly sewing bee's to create recycled bags for Fremantle. To find out more check our facebook page and boomerangbags.org
